The 111th Auxiliary Squadron of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, known for its active support for the environment, has been working with various organizations such as the Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation and the Subic Bay Freeport Chamber of Commerce (SBFCC) in cooperation with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) on several environmental projects which includes the upcoming International Coastal Cleanup and and ICC Environmental Summit on September 16 and 28 to 29 respectively. These events hope to promote a greener and cleaner lifestyle as well as educate the people in the community about the environmental issues and how to help in conserving and protecting our environment. Most of all, it aims to inspire and raise leaders among the youth.
RADM Gerry Reyes, Deputy National Director for Administration, founder of the International Coastal Philippines (ICCPH), recognizes the effort of the ICC Zambales group for being the most successful ICC Campaign to date with almost 90,000 volunteers during the last ICC event in 2015. "It serves as a remarkable model for other areas in the Philippines not just in organizing coastal cleanups but also in the aspects of waste reduction and environmental preservation,” said RADM Reyes. The PCGA is a service-oriented, uniformed, voluntary organization. It is non-government, non-political organization whose membership adhere to the Philippine Coast Guard's (PCG) customs and traditions. Its organizational structure is parallel to PCG and has its own chain of leadership and management. Its primary functions include providing support and assistance to PCG in the promotion of safety of life and property at sea, the preservation of the marine environment and its resources, the conduct of maritime search and rescue, the maintenance of aids to navigation, recreational safety and such other activities that enhance maritime community relations which include civic action, participation under the National Service Training Program, youth development, and other related activities. covered under Section 11 of Republic Act Number 9993, otherwise known as the PCG Law of 2009.
