The city of Olongapo last May 15, 2015 launched the “I Support Riverth Gapo”, a campaign that aims to unite the townspeople in rehabilitating the river for a more sustainable environment. Hence, the underlying theme and objective stems from, “Rebirth of Olongapo River”. To launch the campaign, an Eco Walk (from Marikit Park to Volunteer’s Park) was spearheaded by the Events Guild – Olongapo (EGO). This was participated by Hon. Rolen Paulino, SBMA Director Mrs. Cynthia Paulino, 17 Barangay Captains of Olongapo City, various government departments, private sectors, individuals, and even some Columban College students joined this activity. The event also paved way to unveil the donation box needed to raise funds for the completion of the project. The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation (LMRLF) team, including its director Zedrik Avecilla and project manager, Jozen Curva were also present to support the campaign. “Start in the small things to do bigger things. . . Everyone can make a change,” Ms. Jozen Curva, ICC Project Manager said in a speech during the launching of the campaign.
There were also festivities and programs during the whole weekend of May 16-17, that encouraged the community to interact through music, videos, exercise and goods from local business stands. The ICCZ is in full support of “I Support Riverth Gapo” in lieu of their same objective to unite everyone in cleaning up the waterways, rivers and coastal areas of Subic, Zambales and several nearby coastal provinces.
