In observance to the National Disaster Consciousness Month 2015, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), SBMA Ecology, and The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation. collaborated for a "SCUBASURERO", underwater and coastal cleanup last July 25, 2015, in Subic Bay.
The event was graced by Director Josie Timoteo of the Office Of Civil Defense Region 3 and Chairperson of the Disaster Risk Reduction, Management Council Region 3 as the Guest Speaker and Atty. Chot Kabigting for an inspirational message. The cleanup sites were divided along the coastal area of the Central Business District, SBFZ, and Grande Island (designated area of the twenty divers), which amounted to 8 sectors in total. The scuba divers were able to gather several bags of trash ranging from beer bottles, plastics and other debris that's harmful to marine life, while their fellow volunteers on land cleared a substantial amount of trash from the coastlines. Special thanks to Mr. George Ang Dy Pay of Boardwalk Dive Center, Richard Storment and Jimmy Robertson of SCUBA Shack for their generous support! Hats off to Major Vicente Tolentino and Mr. Johnny Co for taking the lead in organizing this event. And of course, a big thank you to all who participated in the SCUBASURERO Underwater/Coastal Clean up Drive. The Philippines is worth DIVING for. See you all in our upcoming events and on September 19, 2015 for the ICC!
